Maintenance of Polished Concrete Floors-
As we already discussed, polished concrete floors are very durable because of the process of densification and polishing. However, everything requires proper maintenance and if this is not done then it will lose its shine. Having said that, it should be noted that compared to other floor types these are still easier to maintain because they do not need any kind of sealers or waxing.
We have discussed some pointers which can be followed for the maintenance of these floors:
- You need to use a microfiber pad and dust mop the floor on a daily basis and in this keep the dust off limits. Soil is like an abrasive element and can spoil the shine or the clarity of the polished concrete.
- If at all you are using a wet mop for cleaning, we suggest you use clean mops and clean water. It would be better to use an automatic scrubber that has a non abrasive pad. That way you can clean up larger areas. Though of course, for smaller areas it can be kept simple with just a mop and bucket.
- Also it would be a good idea to make use of the floor cleaner which is neutral and formulated so as to keep the dirt particles suspended. That way it can be easily removed. If you use only water, what happens is that most of the dirt gets left on the floor itself. It will pretty soon abrade and spoil the color of the surface.

- The moment there is a spill or stain on the floor; you need to clean it off as soon as possible. The reason is that you need to make sure that it doesn’t get absorbed in to the surface.
- If you put a cleaning agent and start vacuuming immediately or mop it off too fast, the cleaner will not have enough time to do its work. You need to give sufficient time to do its work; break down the grime, grease or any other contaminants and suspend the particles after that.
- You need to give time for the cleaning agent, but at the same time you also need to be sure that it does not dry up on the floor surface. What you can do is clean up small areas at a time before moving to the next.
